Since 1999, owner Johnny Vassallo (Johnny V to those in the know) has managed to sanctify the late, great meal of the cosmopolitan elite -- steak. Everything about a good steak dinner is luxurious, and Vassallo and his professional staff make sure you enjoy yourself. The steaks themselves are deceptively simple looking, served on a plain white plate by themselves. But start piling on the a la carte items (mashed potatoes with white cheddar cheese, hand-breaded onion rings, steamed asparagus) and you've got a table of delight that Escoffier would drool over. Downtown concierges recommend Mo's foremost for the food, but the service comes in a close second. Tag team service is flawless, and won't bat an eye when you order a $650 bottle of Cristal with your $69 seafood appetizer, or even if you ask if refills on soda are free (they are). Wine is the elementary choice to complement your steak, and Mo's wine list boasts five different lists to choose from. Mo's Private Cellar is a treasure chest of fine vintage California Cabernets. Make a toast, eat some meat, and if you're still not satisfied, try one of Mo's classic ice cream drinks. A grasshopper never had it so good. -- Jessica Zierten

Better, not Best
By redheadks78 on 09/15/2004
My husband and I have been here quite a few times in the passed 2 years. The first visit here was wonderful... perfect food, perfect atmosphere. The few times we've come since then, it isn't nearly as nice. The steaks were so-so, and their potato dishes aren't worth the price you pay for them. The a la carte prices aren't either! I'd have to say that my favorite part of the meal when I go is the butter... the flavored butter of the day. I could make a meal out of that. The service is wonderful... although it always depends on exactly who is serving you. My advice... definitely give it a shot if you have $150 to blow on dinner, but if not... then grill some steaks at home!

Great Staff, Great Food
By ziproser on 02/12/2004
Our first visit to Mo's was a nice experience. The bar was comfortable with a "deep well" & drinks poured to match. The soup was flavorful and the salads were fresh, crisp with excellent dressings. At our table we had a filet mignon and a seafood assortment with shrimp and scallops as I recall. My steak was very tender, juicy, cooked to perfection and with great flavor. My date rated her seafood as "wonderful". The wait staff was very attentive and great! Even the Valet guys were rather upbeat! Not a place to go on a tight budget but a great place to work into your budget! Rock & Michelle

Service 5 Stars Food 5 Stars Milwaukee would be @ a loss without Mo's and I definitely recommend the wine bar across the street after dinner for a quintessential tutorial in fine wines.

Lindaisg's Review

We dined with friends who we were treating and found the ala carte ridiculous. I could sense the embarassment of my friends when confronted with the prices. The steaks were average. I've had better and the waitstaff were stuffy and unfriendly. The atmosphere was not at all condusive to conversation at the table. We will not be back.
