This trendy Third Ward sushi hot spot is as pleasing to the palette as it is to the eye. Sophisticated with its sleek birch floors, warm lighting and minimalist design approach, Nanakusa looks more like a gallery than a restaurant. Maybe it's because its entrees are presented like edible works of art. Opened in February 2001 by owner Richard Kaiser, Nanakusa features a menu that's a tad pricey but has something for everyone. Popular favorites include gyu maki, thin-sliced rib-eye beef rolled around green onion, grilled, and served with asparagus or beef yaki soba, a noodle dish made with buckwheat noodles, tender beef, carrot, cabbage and mushroom. Boasting the state's largest selection of sakes, don't neglect ordering one or two with dinner. Going out with a group? Enjoy your sushi in the intimate Japanese-influence tatami room with seating for up to 14 of your closest friends.
