The two large stone horses guarding the entrance to P.F. Chang's alert you that you're not in just any Chinese restaurant. P.F. Chang's is Asian cuisine with style. The huge modern dining room bustles with dozens of tables filled with diners wanting more than stereotypical Chinese takeout. Cherry-accented woodwork creates a dark setting brightened by hand-painted murals depicting 12th century China. Large terra cotta warriors make sure that everyone sitting at the large bar behaves. The food is a varied menu of traditional Chinese fare and P.F. Chang's specialties, with dipping sauces created tableside by the busy waitstaff. Mildly spicy chicken in soothing lettuce wraps is a recommended appetizer and it's hard to go wrong with Chang's spicy chicken or traditional beef lo mein. Oolong marinated sea bass and mango chicken are more adventurous entrees. Chang's is a crowded workday lunch spot and hops on the weekends, so be prepared for a wait if you don't have a reservation. Smaller lunch parties should hover near the bar, where it's first come first served and you can eliminate the wait for a table. -- SM
