The Biggest Ego in Milwaukee
By nikkkalottta on 05/26/2006
First of all, I'll start my review with something positive. Their Godzilla roll is TO-DIE-FOR. But I will talk about that a little later. In short, if Milwaukee was a high school, then Saketumi would be it's snobbiest, most stuck up, spoiled brat. I've never, ever, not even in L.A. been so treated like I am not worthy of being somewhere. Before I even sit down at a table! Once you sit down, you have a fair chance of getting a decent waitstaff who will treat you respectfully. But getting in the door is the hard part. I called for reservations, a few days in advance. "I'm going to have to have you hold for a minute" the girl told me. 10 minutes went by. I hung up. I called back. “Is there a more convenient time for me to call for reservations?” I asked a different girl. She took my reservation information. Told me the manager would call me (?!) He never called. We called again the next day, but were informed it was too late to make reservations, it was all booked. Told we could just come in, but we’d have to wait. No problem. But when you get there, the hostesses tell you, with an attitude, that it will be 2 hours. It’s never two hours. They’re just hoping you’ll say “Oh we’ll just go somewhere else”. But I won’t go somewhere else, because I love the Godzilla roll, and it’s worth the wait. The rest of the sushi is mediocre at best. I just wish that they’d get over whatever attitude problem they have and realize that this is Milwaukee, not trendy NYC or LA. Treat your customers with some respect, that’s all I’m asking. Don’t forget that word gets around and customers are what MAKES or BREAKS your business. As I said, Godzilla roll = good. Other sushi = Go somewhere else where your business is more appreciated. Not Saketumi. By the way, if I would've reviewed after I ate there opening weekend, I would've gave 5 stars. But the snobbiness is what killed it. Get over yourself.

Excellent service!

Try the Godzilla roll! It is really good. Lots of cooked entrees and sushi options for those who are sushi novices. The raw rolls that we ordered were definitely not as good as the cooked ones... but still enjoyable. Our server was excellent and I loved the modern atmosphere. I have had better sushi elsewhere but I would still recommend this place.

Trendy. Poor food quality.

Sake Tumi is definitely a trendy place. It's not your traditional sushi place which is one reason I didn't like it. The trendy attitude extends into the food. Sake Tumim thinks because of its trendy, modern decore that includes exposed brick walls and vinegar soy sauce bottles that it can comprimise on food quality. The spicy tuna looked and tasted like a processed tuna. Horrible. I've had better sushi at the Detroit airport. The best sushi in the area is Yoshi in Delavan, WI.
