Doubletree Hotels are beginning to approach Hilton and Sheraton quality. Even their older motels are in hotel class. The Doubletree Monterey is located in a great downtown spot, 200 yards from Fisherman's Wharf, at the intersection of Del Monte Avenue and Alvarado Street. The hotel is one mile from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Rooms have many amenities including cable TV, Nintendo and refrigerators. The hotel's Steakhouse is famous for its beef and there is a lobby bar and a pub in addition. Plus: chocolate chip cookies on your pillow. Be aware that there are occasionally excellent rate reductions that make this fine hotel no more expensive than a motel on the highway. --Doug Konecky
