Rate and Write a Review Most likely, your restless teens won't want to be seen with you as you shag your way across Myrtle Beach. Point them in the direction of The Attic, Myrtle Beach's only nightclub for younguns aged 13-20. This 1740-capacity nightspot is booming with loud music good for teens and doesnt serve alcohol good for Mom and Dad. It's a 1948 landmark and a hot spot for locals and tourists partly because of its location across Ocean Boulevard from the Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park. The funky cinder-block building, which has been used for vaudeville acts, wrestling matches, rollerskating, shag dancing and rock concerts, has three levels: an arcade, the main dance floor and a theater-style seating section overlooking the dance floor. The upper level has a large balcony where people can get some fresh air and see the beach. Colored lights and suspended televisions hang at odd angles around the dance floor. A video camera films people in real time, and their images pop up on the TV screens. Ginuwine, Brandy, Sammie and Montel Jordan are some of the R&B solo acts who have performed here within the last few years, but The Attic has live shows only about six to eight times a year. Deejay Shaun spins top-40 tunes the rest of the time. The club is open from 7pm to midnight Saturday nights from early March through early October. In June and July, it's open every night. The $8 cover charge is a bit steep for teenagers, but most parents are pleasantly surprised to see how well their children are supervised by manager Mike Skipper and his staff, who, along with uniformed security guards, keep drugs and alcohol away. --Lauren Kafka
