The folk-art decor that covers the windows, tables and walls of Baja Burrito looks authentic, but it was actually done by local artists and friends of owners Troy and Jeanie Smith. The colorful appearance increases the appeal for artists and musicians in the Berry Hill neighborhood, as well as the professionals and white-collar workers who pack the place at lunch. This small restaurant offers mission-style burritos (diners go down the line and tell the server what items they want in their tortilla) and a Baja-style fish taco, made from beer-battered cod fillets wrapped in a corn tortilla with a special white tartar sauce and cabbage. Since Jeanie Smith is a vegetarian, the beans are made without meat and the vegetarian burrito comes with a special mixture of sauteed mushrooms, peppers and onions. Health-conscious diners will appreciate the use of brown rice. Be prepared to rub elbows with other diners in the small dining room, or if the weather is nice, to sit outside at patio or picnic tables. --Vicki Brown

American burrito

I have stopped in here a few times over the years since it has opened hoping it would get better. Having traveled about the states I have found this is a chain, sister places are here as well. I grew up in San Diego and ate in Baja countless times. The food here is nothing like Baja food. It is some what fresh. Poorly assembled, try 2 spoons of meat and leave out the rice. Sometimes Mexicans do make it but for the most part it is bland, over rated and very gringo. The menu is varried but nothing really stands out and makes me want to make this a regular. If you love it already come back but if you want something good and slightly more authentic here in Nashvegas go elsewhere.

Baja Burrito is like so many of those other chain/mall type burrito joints. Which is either your cup of tea or just another boring meal. It is usually fast (except when swamped for lunch) and fresh. The food is average, not the most affordable but it is fresh. The service is as good as college kid types can make it and the place is nice in feel/decor. Having grown up in S. Cal this is just another bland average taco joint w/ little exciting to offer. They skimp on the meats and the spices are bland. And don't ask for a change or substitution when in a line. I am not slagging the place, for Nashville its good but if you have been to Mexico or California, Arizona or even Texas for that matter this place is only semi satisfying. Some day we might actually get a place that is just like the Baja food experience.
