Built as a state of the art facility in 1962, Municipal Auditorium spent most of '60s, '70s and '80s hosting major rock acts like the Rolling Stones, KISS, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kansas, The Police and many others. After years of wear and tear from rowdy rock and roll concerts, rodeos and other large events, the building needed help. The city spent more than $3 million in renovations in the mid '90s to give the large round building a new paint job, nicer restrooms, recovered seats, and new sound system and more. The newly restored venue has successfully hosted basketball games, hockey, wrestling, boxing, ice skating events, Monster Truck rallies and the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. The building is two facilities in one: an arena that seats 9,600 patrons, and a 63,000 square-foot exhibition hall that hosts auto shows, trade shows and more.
