The historic former home of the Grand Ole Opry, The Ryman was first a revival church when it opened in 1892. Ever since, it has become the foundation of Nashville's entertainment tradition. Admired for its fine acoustics, The Ryman has featured artists from many diverse musical backgrounds including Hank Williams and Marty Robbins to Sheryl Crow and Bruce Springsteen. The Ryman presents bluegrass, Christian music, classical, country, rock and even theatrical productions. Major events at The Ryman have included 'Sam's Place' with host Gary Chapman, the hit Broadway musical 'Pump Boys and Dinettes,' musical comedies such as 'Smoke on the Mountain' and Charles Dickens' 'A Musical Christmas Carol.' The Ryman Auditorium not only features stars -- it IS a star! Scenes were shot in this famous theater for the 1966 classic 'Nashville Rebel' starring Waylon Jennings.

Ryman

Absolutely splendid! It is so wonderful that Nashville had the good sense to preserve this beautiful, old building. It is amazing that when the Opry left in 1974, many thought the Ryman was not worth saving. Thank goodness we did not lose it! It is awesome to consider the talent that has performed (and continues to perform) on this stage. Made my first in 1974 and my most recent in 2003. It is always tops on my "A" list of things to see when I come to Nashville.
