When Le Chat Noir opened at the edge of the Warehouse District in 1999, it was with a vision of nightly cabaret in a 1940s nightclub setting. That goal quickly broadened at the pressure of theater types in need of a venue and New Orleanians in search of new types of entertainment. These days, patrons can catch a wide variety of performances -- cabaret, comedy, theater, music, review, sometimes even political discussions -- from one of the small tables in the 110-seat theater. Le Chat Noir serves drinks only, but the drink menu is extensive, with cocktails (top shelf only) and house wines starting at $5. Bar Noir, a slick bar up front, opens about an hour before show time, providing a comfortable meeting spot, and stays open long after the show is over. Dinner at Herbsaint restaurant, a couple doors down, and a show at Le Chat Noir has become a popular local routine. -- Stella Hebert

This is not an example of what cabaret should be in New Orleans. Attending a shows opening night we were greeted to bad service at the door just picking up our tickets. Try getting a drink at the bar before you enter the theater because the cocktail waitress doesn't like to wait on people. Should it really take over 45 minutes to get a drink at a table during a performance? Try to grab a drink at the bar in front and your served a fresh slice of attitude from the reject pool boys acting as bartendars. If attitude and being snotty is your scene this is your place. A small attempt at trying to bring real cabaret to a deserving city. The owner should really pay some attention to the staff who makes you want to scream because they are so dang mean! Not very impressed. My five friends and I were very uncomfortable being crushed together at a table built for two. Trying to remedy this problem the hostess was even more rude and ugly for asking to accomadate me. I am rather tall and did not like being shoved together. The hostess brought us another chair and placed it right in front of the couple behind us letting me block their view. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE YUCK YUCK YUCK! I will never return to another show and will be sure to inform anyone else how bad this place is. Save the attitude and bad service for places like California and Paris! LE CHAT NO SERVICE WITH EXTRA HELPINGS OF ATTITUDE AND UGLY!!
