I live right around the corner from Markey's and absolutely love it. I was not a stranger to New Orleans culture being from Jackson, MS, but since I moved here 6 months ago, I have made some great friends at Markey's. It's usually just hard-working people who need a good wind-down drink...and sports fans of course. Always cheap (and strong) drinks, great food, and fast, friendly service. The new Black Bean Veggie Burger is a must. Small staff and great jukebox, plus Roy, the owner, is one-of-a-kind. Try it out!!
Friendliest Bar in the Bywater
First of all JBM, the neighborhood is not mostly gay; not that there's anything wrong with that. And it is most definitely populated by locals. The owner lives across the street, the chef lives around the corner, and most of the locals could walk there. I'll be there Monday night when the Hornets advance to the conference finals and the place will be electric. It even has a full length shuffleboard table. I could go on, but just try it out for yourself. I promise you'll be back.

Hit or Miss.......
Most locals in the neighborhood around Markeys avoid this place. Considering most of the neighborhood is gay they fail to be gay friendly. Sometimes it's a wonderful bar to hit, other times good luck everything depends on who is behind the bar.
Overall Rating = Fair.. Hit or miss. other than that... .YAWN !!!!
