Rate and Write a Review French, Spanish, Cajun and Creole influences all flourish in one of the French Quarter's most venerable dining institutions. Broussard's opened its doors in 1920 and over the years has turned from simple bistro into an ornate imperial experience befitting 19th-century New Orleans. The restaurant occupies a number of historical structures that house multiple dining rooms. Seating is also available amidst the lush greenery and the working fountain inside the cobblestone courtyard. A piano room supplies live jazz on weekends. While the food represents a healthy blend of competing heritage, its Creole accents and rich sauces make the most obvious mark. Among the signature dishes are the Louisiana Bouillabaisse, Veal Escalope Acadian (sauteed veal slices layered with crabmeat or crawfish in a mustard dill Bechamel port wine demi-glace) and Pompano Napoleon, featuring pepper-crusted scallops and shrimp in a mustard caper sauce. The pork rib chop, currant lacquered breast of duck and wild game grill are displayed with artful care. Desserts include chocolate mousse, Crepes Broussard, and the Delice Madame P, a combination of chocolate profiteroles, lemon tart and a dessert of the day. -- Ian Sax
