The owners pride themselves on the versatility of their musical tastes, but local (and a growing number of national) fans know the Wolf mainly as THE rock venue in the Crescent City. If you're a resident musician playing modern rock, you're nowhere until you've played this gig, although lots of national acts pass through here, as well. This former grain and cotton warehouse is physically unimpressive, consisting of giant wooden columns and a low ceiling with exposed beams and pipes, but the owners have such a precise and tasteful sense of the cutting edge that gigging here is practically a sign you're headed for bigger things. The mix is an eclectic one, the formidable rock rep notwithstanding - this is also a good venue to catch local R&B legends, novelty acts and underground hip-hop artists. A friendly staff and affordable drinks from one of the three service bars help make this an excellent choice for private parties, as well. If the music's not to your liking, sit outside on the patio-style furniture and radiate your cool from there.

I write a music column for the NO paper so go there to review bands occasionally and I like it because there are all types of people (and all kinds of music) I wouldn't miss Dick Dale with his annual fall gig at the Wolf.
