Igor, the Austrian national who founded this bar, actually has two other combination laundromat-bars in the city, but this is arguably the favorite, and definitely the pick of the college crowd due to its St. Charles Avenue location (conveniently just off the historic streetcar line that runs throughout the neighborhood). It's a fixture in the neighborhood that served as location shooting grounds for several scenes in the Julia Roberts film ''The Pelican Brief.'' However, location is still the last thing this hip 24-hour bar has going for it. The bartenders are legendary among mixologists (the house Bloody Mary a particular favorite). The prices are very reasonable, and the crowd is a wild one, an international mix of hardcore partiers who return to this bar as if it were a seasonal home. Sit at the large end of the bar if you're a bachelor on the make; it's a predetermined signal that you're available. The grill serves up ''world-famous'' Igor Burgers, but the bar's sister restaurant, Igor's Garlic Clove, offers local delicacies but a few feet away. And no Igor's bar would be complete without pool, video poker, and the aforementioned laundromat, which really does operate 24 hours and ensures you'll rub elbows with a wide range of locals. -- Rob Fontenot

Igor's Is An American Classic
By ambrose793 on 11/17/2007
I hung out at Igor's in 1990. Watched the MLB All Star game, ate, did laundry, played pool and got drunk. It is right around the corner from the AYH Youth hostel, the Marquette House. One of the best week's of my life. Went back in 2005 right before Katrina. It had not changed one bit. I think they only cleaned the bathroom 2 or 3 times in between my visits, but who cares?

Igor's

However, your geography is wrong in your review. The Pelican Brief segment was filmed at another awesome bar Igor owns, which is Checkpoint Charlie's, located on the opposite side(from St. Charles) of the French Quarter, across Esplanade.

Igors Good Garlic Clove Bad
By osbick23 on 03/24/2005
Igors, the bar is an awesome little spot, good crowd, good music, and the laundry facilities rock. I frequent it often as I live in the neighborhood. The Garlic Clove on the other hand is in desparate need of an overhaul. The service is poor, the staff is rude and incompetent, and the LAST time I ate there I almost demanded my money back. The gumbo was cold with an excessive amount of bones in it, and the jambalya had a texture as though it was the last of what was in the pot and was scraped off the bottom. On another visit I was IGNORED by my waiter, I had to go fetch my own menu, get my own beer, and wait a ridiculous amount of time for my order to be taken... That was the one and only time I didnt tip. Never again

disgusting
By sclhitryue on 03/18/2005
I went to Igor's three times, about 1-2 a.m. I will never go again. All 3 times, the bathroom was covered in puke that had been sitting there for days. All 3 times, EVERY beer on tap smelled and tasted foul. 2 out of 3 times, the bartender was drunk and service suffered because of it. As for the clientele, ... there are some very unsavory locals that frequent this place. It's not worth it - go somewhere cleaner with a sober bartender.
