Small but large on Good food
Tight quarters and often a wait for a table, but consistently good food and affordable prices.
OPEN post Katrina!!!!
I drove through Bucktown yesterday & was pleased to see a large plywood "open" sign outside of R&O's. This is one of two of my favorite Bucktown restaurants (Sid Mars was the other, but it didn't survive Katrina). R&O's has great fried seafood if you like the batter to have flavor, but if you prefer a bland cornmeal batter than Sid Mars may be more your style. R&O's flavors their batter with LOTS of garlic! Yummy! The fried crab claws are a wonderful appetizer. Anything you get with seafood here will be great - even the pasts. I love their shrimp fettucini. All of the seafood platters come with massive amounts of french fries, so you won't go hungry here! I'm not a fan of their spaghetti dishes, but I don't like peppery tomato sauce - to each their own. I do love their po-boys. This is a noisy place, with down to earth waitresses. It's a great place to go out to eat with the kids, & the kids can even watch a pizza being made through the kitchen window!
I am annoyed with AOL for removing the "City's Best" & replacing it with useless information through the "Rebuilding a City" blog. I am going to post my own information about businesses in the area through the rating system to help out fellow New Orleanians that are attempting to live a somewhat normal life post Katrina. New Orleans will not thrive if we do not support our open businesses!
Great Po' Boys & Pizza
R&O's is well-known for its excellent po' boys but I have fallen in love with their pizza. The service is good and the waitresses are usually friendly and take good care of you. If you love seafood, they'll take care of that craving as well. I recommend the Roast Beef Po' Boy and the cheese pizza. Family oriented place, so can get loud with kids.
Excellent Seafood & Roast Beef Po'Boys
The pizza is a later addition. It is the best run family business in New Orleans and our top choice for real downhome New Orleans food; you know it's great when it's messy - especially the Roast Beef Po'Boy! Have plenty of napkins ready and an empty stomach to finish their meals! I avoid Deanie's at all costs; their prices are way too high and overrated as a tourist ripoff.
R&O's is the best by far 2nd only to Mother's and more convenient for locals. Nothing better than a walk down the levee after a great meal at R&O's!!
