If you like after-hours exclusivity, this is the place for you. Snake and Jake's is far from picky about who it lets in, but the location and appearance of this tiny bar naturally weeds out most of the tourists. Situated on a nondescript street in an unassuming residential neighborhood, this tin shack is easy to miss - frankly, it's easier to find a house party. Those looking for a post-2AM oasis of hip will be easily seduced by the atmosphere, however; the inside is lit only by Christmas lights and a plastic Santa (every night of the year, hence the name) and tricked out in red velvet. The vinyl jukebox sends out just the right classic rock/R&B vibe, while neighborhood dogs wander in and out of the premises freely. Elegant it is not, but the cheap drinks more than make up for your wounded sense of taste. In fact, anyone can drink free at Snake and Jakes - as long as they get naked first. Believe it or not, this happens quite often, especially at Mardi Gras, and sometimes the au naturel work it out on the tiny dance floor, as well. Try the "Black and Gold" shot if you're drinking like you've got something to prove.
