Rate and Write a Review This bar, nestled in the lobby of the ultra-elegant boutique hotel known as the International, was designed as an entire story -- one that would serve as a history of religion in the city. (Loas are divine spirits in the voodoo religion.) To that end, it's lit only with candles, decorated with Gothic mirrors and features an "interactive altar" at which visitors can leave offerings. The crowd skews professional, somewhat upscale and usually in their late 20s, although hotel guests also mix and mingle, which means conventioneers and the like often wander in. The furnishings are comfortable and cozy, the lighting is dark, the staff is amiable and easy on the eyes, and the overall effect is that of a slightly less stuffy martini bar with sensuous overtones. The many windows offer a panoramic view of the Central Business District and its goings-on, making it a great place to people-watch. And since it's located only two blocks from the world-famous French Quarter, the view is never dull. -- Robert Fontenot, Jr.
