Multi-millionaire athletes flock to the 40/40 Club, Jay-Z's ultra-upscale sports lounge with enormous plasma and projection TVs, modern leather eggcup chairs suspended from the ceiling, and three private rooms (one's a cigar lounge), each equipped with entertainment centers featuring 60-inch plasma screens, PlayStation II and XBox, pool tables, and Italian leather wraparound couches. Named after the exclusive coterie of baseball players who can claim both 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in one season, (there are only three), the club is the venue of choice for big-name draft parties and other events. Barry Bonds (one of the aforementioned trio, along with Alex Rodriguez and Jose Canseco) is a regular, and both WFAN and ESPN Radio broadcast from here once a week, adding to the huge list of star athletes and other celebrities who have made this their 'local' sports bar. -- Dan Glass

it's not worth your time or $

Website said no cover or dress code.....security at the door confiscated our combs & made us remove caps. 20% gratuity added to bill. service was slow and lacking the criteria for receiving 20% gratuity. We were rushed out of the club because we weren't buying two drinks or mroe food. The reason was more people wanted to sit. But clearly there wasn't a line, no one was waiting, and more importantly, the club was empty! We won't be going back. There are too many other sports clubs in Manhattan that are willing to earn 20%....and won't throw us out when we say we don't want more to eat or drink!

Atlantic City is a gamble
By christelpeele on 01/22/2008
I flew from NC to NJ to attend a birthday party at the Atlantic City club. I was very disappointed at the way the night began and ended. I thought that the 40/40 would be a place of prestige and luxury. Instead I was bombarded with rude, unprofessional staff who offered to take my picture with a 1988 Polaroid camera in the pitch dark blackness of the club. As a brown skin sister I was insulted when a fair skin employee tried to convince me that other people like pictures dark because "it hides flab." First of all I am not fat; secondly, it is my picture, if I don't like it take another one. It’s called customer service. I would never go party with the kids again nor would I recommend others subject themselves to the ghetto mentality of the staff and its patrons. Jay-Z, Atlantic City needs a check up and colonoscopy.

MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT USE YOUR CREDIT CARD IN THIS PLACE BECAUSE THE BARTENDERS AND WAITRESSES HAVE CONVENIENT AMNESIA. THEY DOUBLE CHARGE LIKE THE DRINKS ARE NOT OVERCHARGED ALREADY. DRINKS ARE WATERED DOWN.
