Multi-millionaire athletes flock to the 40/40 Club, Jay-Z's ultra-upscale sports lounge with enormous plasma and projection TVs, modern leather eggcup chairs suspended from the ceiling, and three private rooms (one's a cigar lounge), each equipped with entertainment centers featuring 60-inch plasma screens, PlayStation II and XBox, pool tables, and Italian leather wraparound couches. Named after the exclusive coterie of baseball players who can claim both 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in one season, (there are only three), the club is the venue of choice for big-name draft parties and other events. Barry Bonds (one of the aforementioned trio, along with Alex Rodriguez and Jose Canseco) is a regular, and both WFAN and ESPN Radio broadcast from here once a week, adding to the huge list of star athletes and other celebrities who have made this their 'local' sports bar. -- Dan Glass

Foul Ball!!
By Laujoe on 04/09/2009
OK---we've read the hype on the website...and the pics sure look cool! And 5 different rooms, right? Ok-I go ahead and make a reservation. We arrived a bit earlier than my reservation time. A very friendly Jason greets us and takes us to our "table". We were apparently a bit confused. Thinking we were early and he was taking us a lounge area for a drink until our table was ready. But NO!!!...this WAS our table. A couch, a chair and two LITTLE cubes that were calling themselves tables! "But arent there real tables?" we ask. "yes", says Jason,"but they are in the VIP room". Apparently we werent good enough for this mysterious, table abundant VIP room. Now as a back story, the place was deserted. There were only two other couples/groups in the whole place. And the VIP room looked darkened. OK---so we settle onto the couch, which was comfortable. Jason is more than friendly and puts on the baseball games of our choice on two different TVs. AHHHH---the TVs! They sucked!! Tiny 19' off brand pieces of junk and NO high def!!!! WHAT!!!!!!!! At the bar were two big projection screens, with horrible pictures. We came for dinner, but the thought of bending down to tables that came up our knees and dripping everything in our laps made us opt for an appitizer and a couple glasses of wine. Appys were ok and the wine was good. The bathrooms were----well odd! In a private though still open area, are 4 or 5 stalls. For BOTH men and women. And one long trough-like sink with 4 or 5 faucets. On a busy night those toilets must get disgusting! So now Jason comes with the check. He doesnt even give it to me---he's holding onto it and waiting for my credit card!! I had to ask to see the bill. Never saw anything like it! Two appys and 4 glasses of wine---$102!!! Nuts--even in New York! OK--that did include the 20% tip. DONT FORGET THEY INCLUDE THE TIP IN THE BILL. They dont remind you of that. Want a sportsbar?----Go to a real sportsbar. This was pure ameteur hour fluff!

I booked my birthday party there, through there sales office, and they were so friendly and helpful. I had just a few friends but they treated us just like VIPs. Once we arrived on the night we were shown to our private booth, RIGHT ON THE DANCE FLOOR!! We couldn't have had better seating. Our waitress was so friendly and not bad to look at either!! She was so sweet and kept coming around every few minutes to help us. We ended up staying all night long, even though we had another reservation for dinner, I had no idea they served food that late!!! All around this is a great bar, very posh, with a great staff. I would recommend anyone to come down and have their party here!!

100% Class

Jay-Z has really outdone himself with this posh yet accessible lounge. It's everything you would expect and so much more. Although the menu seems predictable at first glance, everything I have ever tasted at the 40/40 comes with a slight twist and is the best I've ever had. It says a lot when even the French fries blow competitors out of the water. Somebody put a whole lot of thought into the design of the ENTIRE club, down to the last detail. Did I mention the hosts are SUPER friendly and sweet? The guys are kept occupied with the sports channels, and the music is Primo! I really can't get enough. Hats off to Jay-Z for this super classy club that's everything I dreamed it would be... and so much more!
