Chelsea, the 'hood that Dusk calls home, is one swanky district, even by New York standards. Perhaps that's why this bar simultaneously strives to be a local watering hole and an upscale haunt. Dusk boasts some of the trappings of a club/lounge, like its a huge mirror mosaic wall and sleek bar. But it also has a pool table, jukebox (good eclectic mix) and a non-gussied-up clientele. The crowd is dedicated and diverse -- part Chelsea queer, part techie geek, part ad-exec type, among others. It's one of the only spots in the club-clustered area that's open late during the week, and one of the few places to get a cheap drink, which is probably what makes it a popular after-work destination. Caveat: Don't flirt with someone else while your date is in the bathroom: He or she will be able to see you through the two-way mirrors that look out into the bar. -- Dan Glass
