If you've heard the popular term "pre-Giuliani" bandied about when describing this large midtown gay bar, it's not entirely accurate. That's because the moniker, which refers to the excessive sex and peep-show scene in Times Square before Mayor Rudy Giuliani banned it, makes the bar sound simply seedy. There's a certain allure to a place where you know the same-sex hustlers will be straight-shooting -- that is, there are no mind games: They're out, flamboyant and will grind right up to you. If you like over-the-top forthrightness (read: nice and pushy) in your pick-up scene, this is your place. Unlike model-loaded young trendy places in Chelsea, Stella's is essentially an old-fashioned go-go gay bar where you can get cheap beer and drinks and hobnob with hustlers, escorts, queens and the theatre crowd. Plus, you're not ostracized if you're older than 28. There's no food, but a jukebox plays upstairs, a weekend DJ spins downstairs, and loads of scantily-clad Latin dancers are sure to keep you, ahem, occupied.
