Continental could be called a younger brother to CB's. But under the guiding watch of its owner, who is pretty much always around, it plays a bit more to its neighborhood, the East Village. Steeped in its own punk history, Continental has seen a hall-of-fame roster of acts (including Iggy Pop and Patti Smith) sweat it out on the dive-high stage. These days, the place is still dark, scarred, and thrashing, playing incubator for budding bands from New York and across the country. It draws a mix of music-savvy college kids, industry people, and the ink-and-metal crowd, and seems to have an eternal stream of equipment going in and out of the front doors. The calendar is packed with five or more bands a night, which keeps things fresh. Plus, there's almost always a payoff for those just stopping in. A stalwart of the old-school St. Marks scene, Continental has also earned its place in music history: On Dec. 11, 2000, Joey Ramone played his last show here.

These people!

The bouncer never says "no re-entry permitted" and then charges people for readmission when they just go out for a smoke! This will cost this club a ton of money because he makes people so mad that no band will ever play there again. He took money from me and my husband on Saturday, March 26 and we went outside with HIS PERMISSION to get our friends. We were NEVER OUT OF HIS LINE OF SIGHT!!!!! We found our friends, who had gone for a smoke, and showed the men at the door our hands. Not only were we denied re-entry despite having our ands stamped, he tried to charge us again and would not refund our money previously paid. Avoid this club if you value your wallet!

Tupacsfan4ever's Review

This bar is owned by someone i now, if you read this owner, its Ben. Even though I've only been there a couple of times and i dont like rock too much I must say it was quite intersting to hear new music and the drinks are great. Joey Ramone is looking down on Continental right now and saying im glad i had my last show there. Trigger is definately the nicest person in NYC and the whole state of NY and the whole Eastside. With a state of the art sound system and a McDonalds next door its a good place to lsten to rock hang out and then go next door to have a nice BigMac. If you go take a look at the pictures on the wall. I like this bar better than the ones near where I live,Florida. Pompano cant beat Continental, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami would have trouble trying to beat Continental. After all live concerts not Djs and Cds. Its awesome
