The Hole is not a tame environment. If you want muscle boys with a corporate double life, go elsewhere. The owners of the Cock on Avenue A opened Hole (pun intended) on Second Avenue, in a minor show of west-bound manifest destiny. Formerly full of '80s glamwear, go-go boys, and drunken making out, it's now full of ink and hardware, against a backdrop of floor-to-ceiling graffiti. The crowd is also a bit more mixed and little less cruise-y. But while the overt sexual charge of the past has waned (many will notice that the small downstairs room is now a coat check), it remains dynamic, and has become a favorite neighborhood bar. And how can you not relax? Low, low drink prices are incentive to become a regular.
