Rate and Write a Review Although the Hotel 17 is located in lovely and chic Gramercy Park, the attendant at the check-in desk is encased in a Plexiglas booth, which may be telling you something. The hotel boasts that many of its 120 guest rooms, which have all been renovated to retain their old-world feel, have been used as backdrops in fashion magazines shoots and films including Manhattan Murder Mystery. And it's easy to see why. The hotel has a decidedly noir-ish feel: note the Art Deco mirrored lobby, wallpapered, dark wood accented rooms, and the double-door hallways. Almost anachronistically, each room is equipped with cable TV, air conditioning, and phone and fax services. Some of the rooms come with private baths, others with just a sink and access to a shared bath just down the hall. The rooms are clean, and many feature large bay windows. Prices are extremely low for this incredibly desirable part of town, so if you want get a prime location but you're pockets aren't quite so deep -- and you don't mind a little local color -- the Hotel 17 may be something to consider. -- Amy Reiter
