We went to the Jazz Standard on April 6, 2002 and saw Abdullah Ibrahim and Ekaya. They were absolultely wonderful. The floor layout for watching the musicians is nice. Unfortunately, the room had some plumbing problems, which caused a delay in the show starting and at one point during the show, the music had to compete with noises coming from the pipes. The most disappointing thing, however, was the food. Barbeque just does not work with a nice jazz show. We had two types of ribs, both with very very little meat on the bones. The only way to eat them effectively is with your fingers but there were no wet naps on the tables and we did not want to get up during the show to wash our hands. I brought this up to one of the servers at the end of the show. She said we should have used our fingers, wiped them on the cloth napkins (which were about half the size of a standard napkin) and then wash our hands at the end of the show. Why would any establishment want their patrons uncomfortable with dirty hands while they are trying to enjoy a show? The Blue Smoke needs to improve the menu or pile the table with paper napkins and wet naps!

Post renovation: a disaster. Boring jazz, bad food and atrocious service. We actually waited over 5 minutes for silverware after 5 of the six meals were served, then another few minutes for the sixth meal). If you want to be treated well, enjoy good food and listen to New York jazz at its best...go somewhere else.

ugh...imagine, after our 6 dinner orders arrived late with one missing, drink orders all wrong,NO SILVERWARE and lousy jazz, we were nastily asked to vacate the premises for being "too loud", when in fact all we asked for was aknife and fork to eat with, the correct drink order and a meal for one of us... ...go anywhere else, this place sucks
