Nobody looks to Restaurant Row for culinary innovation, and Le Rivage may have the distinction of being the most outdated place even in that gastronomic backwater. In fact, the place is a time machine--a glance backward at what French restaurants were like in the ?60s and ?70s, before the first whiff of nouvelle cuisine made its way to New York. The food, like the decor, is heavy--but also delicious. All the old warhorses are here--frog legs, escargot, coq au vin--back like hall of famers at an old timer's game, and still packing a wallop. Just don't come counting calories: There's enough cream and butter in each dish to supply a dairy.

Great Food Reasonable prices
By mrfoxwoods on 09/04/2005
We have eaten here 3 -4 times and never disappointed. The mussels appetizer is to die for. They should make it into an entre. Lamb and beef outstanding. The portions are very good too, unlike most French restaurants. Minutes to your play. Price/fix more than reasonable... Dennis

We ate there before a Broadway show and not only did they get us out in time, the food was sublime! I have recommended to several friends since and was disappointed recently when we tried to go before a Weds. matinee, we should have made reservations. Excellent food, excellent value.......for NYC!!!

Great Before A Show
By silwhi on 10/12/2004
All I can say about Le Rivage is that the food was very good(in fact the BEST Coq A Vin I've ever had), the service was very good, the setting pleasant, and, best of all, they got us fed and out in plenty of time to make our curtain several blocks away. Well worth the trip.

RMATHSEN's Review

Dined there 11/30/03 - Absolutely charming! The service was prompt (you can't do better than a Polish waitress!)and the food attractively prepared as well as delicious! The lamb chops and meat are especially wonderful! The fish is very good and delicately prepared. A great value: prixe fixe $30 which includes appetizer, salad, entree and dessert (which also can be a cheese)! Can't wait to go again!!
