As your neighborhood bodega is to the Food Emporium, Wholesale Liquidators is to K-Mart. The narrow, cramped store is piled high with more plastic knickknacks than you thought possible. You might even find yourself asking consumer-existentialist questions (Where did all this come from? Why is it here?). The name is more descriptive than hyperbole -- the store liquidates extra goods left over from shipping orders -- which is what makes the place so fascinating. The stock varies wildly day by day so that those groovy closet hooks you bought on Tuesday might not be there Thursday, and the bags of cheap candy by the register ebb and flow hourly. Given the chaos of the place, the staff does a surprisingly good job of familiarizing itself with what's in stock. Ask employees if they have the big plastic bins you need for your next party, a shower caddy for your soaps and shampoos, or an inexpensive blender, and they'll steer you in the right direction.
