Rate and Write a Review Novotel was built before the rennovation of Times Square, and as a result, the 33-story building is build like a fortress: brick-clad, modest windows, lobby above street level -- it's a sad commentary on a neighborhood once forsaken. With the area's revival, Novotel's potential is clear. Starting at roughly $200 a night, the pricing is a big reason to stay at this run-of-the-mill hotel. The rooms are soundproof (as they must be in this part of Manhattan), and while nondescript draperies, turndowns, meeting and banquet rooms, and in-room safes and video checkouts are splendid, they're no more unique than at any other good hotel. The excellent gourmet sandwich bar, dazzling piano bar, and fine restaurant, Nicole's, could really make the Novotel stand out in the crowd -- so why are they it's least-known features? -- Leonard Jacobs
