Passing through the elegant hallway towards the main room at Apt., one has the impression that a classy cocktail party is awaiting, with hors d'oeuvres perhaps -- little salmon canapes or deviled quail eggs. Nope. Just a plush couch- filled room with gilt-framed photos and other elements that make it look like, as the name suggests, an apartment. The downstairs space would have been the wine cellar, but was more likely a refrigerated room for one of the meat- packing companies in the area. It is a weirdly simple room in any case, reduced to a few elements: backlit faux-wood paneling that covers three walls, long counter running the length of the space, and the long bar. Whatever the intent of the design, it serves to provide maximum holding capacity for the socio-economically diverse crowd, who seem to have a hard time figuring out where to stand. DJs every night keep them circulating. -- Dan Glass

Call ahead, because once in a while you may need to get yourself on a list to enter this bi-level dance bar/lounge. However, once inside, you'll have every opportunity mingle, relax, enjoy fine appetizers, and dance the night away on the downstairs level. Who knows, you might just get lucky. Know the place you're going
By mastaace27 on 07/20/2006
I'm amazed by some of the reviews on here. If you think APT is trying to still cater to the "lets go find a new hotspot every week" crowd, you are mistaken. APT has become a chill and laid back place, great to go if you are with a group of fun people (i.e. its not so much a place to meet people, although you definitely can, as it is a place to relax and listen to some great music with friends). Drinks are expensive but great, and for the most part the service is fine. Two side notes; check the website because some nights are very different than others. As my title said, just know the place you're going. If you're into hip hop (which is fantastic there), but you go on a house DJ night, you don't have a reason to complain. Their website has a DJ schedule and list for every day of the week, so just look into it before going. Also, if they don't let you in, there is probably a reason. Last time I went was to see an underground hip hop producer/ DJ, and the guy in front of us in line couldn't figure out why the bouncers werent taking to his knock off Ferragamo outfit straight from the outlets and weren't buying his standard club entry line of "Yo, I know this guy who promotes here, if I dont get in its your ass." Bring friends, make sure its a night with your type of music, and you'll have a great time.
