Brooklyn isn't synonymous with barbeque, and neither was the self-taught owner of Bar BQ, until he quit his day job and turned a passion for pork into a serious study of all things smoked. Decor-wise, there's not much to take your mind off the meat. The out-of-the-way Sunset Park place is essentially a wooden bar, a low-key homey place that is proud of its plastic utensils, cafeteria trays and blues-blasting jukebox. The finger-licking menu is not vegetarian-friendly. Meat comes at you like a stampede, smoked and sweet and sopping with tangy vinegar and red pepper sauce. Have the hand-pulled pork on a sandwich or a platter, the latter arriving with white bread (no cornbread, folks) and sides like baked beans or mac 'n' cheese. Also try the baby back ribs, beef brisket or hot sausage; if you can't decide, shovel them all in a coronary-inducing combo. Wash it all down with good bourbon (select from over 20 kinds) and a slice of key lime pie, loosen your Texas-sized belt buckle, and start all over again before the sun sets on your clean arteries.

THis place should be closed down! My last review didnt even make this site! Dry "meat" over cooked, or nuked mac and cheese, actually the pasta turned clear! 4 dollars for a bottle of warm soda! We were told that they have no freezer, so the ice cream cake that we brought for a guest, was delivered to our table actually melted. We had to ask for plates, even though straws would have been much better. All food served on those paper onion ring plates.. Come on guys, who said that this dump is one of NYC best???? Did someone get a comp meal to produce such a fake review??? We actually went to this place because of the review... Maybe the reviewer should take another look at this place... Rating it poor is still 3 stars higher than it deserves. When asking the server/bartender for ice, we were told that she forgot, she can not function without a few drinks in her! Then she brought us 4 cellophane packets that had a plastic knife, fork and salt pack... Real class for sure! Thanks CityScen for the great review!
