You'll enter this former Ukrainian social club down a few steps from the street, the cluster of small rooms separated by fantastic arches with old beer kegs lining the low ceilings. One small room has a built-in wooden stage, now perfect as a performance space. The preservation works well with the young East Village crowd that fills this bar and restaurant, some of whom have known Jimmy since his days at Patio, a popular bar once just down the street. An eclectic bunch of brews are on tap, and Jimmy is now the chef behind the kitchen's swinging doors. Experimenting with Mediterranean flavors, Jimmy tops off chickpea soup with spareribs, sauteed escarole with slab bacon from the Ukrainian butcher down the street, and takes a page from Marcella Hazan's cookbook with a rich red wine-based beef stew.

The Best of the BEST

You cannot go wrong at this establishment unless you hate great beer and food. The variety of Beers is astounding and constantly updated, and the food is just out of this world. Did I mention that when you walk down the stairs that is exactly what happens to you. You feel as though you have entered into another world - a different time. Spectacular.

Amazing Beer / Fun Times

If I want to get together with friends for a a rich experience, and a chance loosen up and catch up, I need an environment that feels fresh, festive, and quirky. I love the decor. And can't wait for the food. Best of all is the Beer. There's something special about their list. Lots of tastes. I've never had a bad time there. I like my beer with cheer. Go Jimmy's #43.
