It's your basic old-school type of supermarket, complete with a big battery of yellow and white signs papering the front window announcing this week's featured sale: Fresh watermelon only 29 cents a pound! As one of the only full-size markets in the East Village, Key Food has an appreciative audience. Everyone from mohawk-sporting punks to NYU college students to stroller-toting soccer moms and yuppies in nearby rent controlled apartments take advantage of the 24 hours a day, seven days a week access. The cool thing, though, is that Key Food offers a quality product. They've got a good selection of fresh produce and meats, clean, well spaced aisles and floors, and all the basic staples (chips, dips, cereal, ice cream) that you could want.
