Far and away the largest park in the city, Pelham Bay Park, located up in the Bronx, is a great getaway for the entire family. With nearly 3,000 acres of woods and wetlands, this vast and sprawling sanctuary can be easily reached by subway, which lets you off at the southern section. Pelham Bay Park includes tennis courts, playgrounds and picnic areas. The park's prime attraction -- along with active wildlife like raccoons, hawks, insects and owls -- is Orchard Beach. Known as "The Riviera of New York," it's a one-mile stretch of sandy beach with grassy spots, a promenade and a nice view across the Long Island Sound of Hart Island.

safe Family environment
Orchard has changed in MANY ways. As a bronx native I can say I've gone every year since a kid, visited other beaches in other boroughs, states,and other countries, the water may not be crystal blue, However it is the cleanest it's been in decades.
My kids love the water and the fact that the waves are not rough I feel secure when my kids play in the water. Best time to go is mon.-fri. if possible. less crowds.
It's a great place for family.
Feel at home
Orchard Beach is great its a family beach where you can go and always bump into people you know. if you don't like being alone. Its safe and comfortable their. You never feel out of place no matter how you look. (smile)
Prodominately puerto ricans and italians go there. So we always make you feel welcome!
It's for me..............
Don't listen to the other reviews. Those people haven't been their in years. I go to Orchard Beach on my day off during the week, and I can take all my clothes off and sunbath in the nude.
It's very clean and friendly. Yes the men love to stare at my breast & between my legs, but that is what it's all about. Just clean good fun. So look all you want, it turns me on. So does Orchard Beach.
