''It was just something we dreamed up in the middle of the night,'' says Andy, co-owner of the cafe, record store and live music bar in the galactic center of the Lower East Side. The self-proclaimed music geeks and owners of Alt.coffee on Avenue A wanted to ''do something good on Ludlow Street,'' and if anything, have figured out a way to maximize income from the space, with at least one, and usually three, viable business operating at any given time between 7-4AM. The cafe opens earlier than most in the neighborhood, the record store gives customers their vintage vinyl fix during the day, and prime time sees action as a local bar full of quintessential downtown art/music types rocking out to eclectic acts lined up by people deep in the independent music scene. In a neighborhood swept with real estate speculation and calculated scenes, it's nice to see some of the LES DIY back on the block.
