Every day is Valentine's Day at this glorious homage to classic French cuisine. The airy and glittering dining room makes everyone feel like a prosperous boulevardier, with its deep red banquettes, gold-leaf sconces and the most lavish flower arrangements this side of the Rose Bowl. Like many old-line French restaurants, La Grenouille has loosened its tie and added a number of lighter, less-elaborate dishes to the menu, like a lovely grilled squab salad faintly aromatic of marjoram. That's all well and good, but the main reason to dine here is the timeless classics: foie gras with sweet-sharp fig vinegar, quenelles Lyonnaise (pillowy mousses of fresh pike) with an unrepentant wine-cream sauce, and the renowned sauteed frog's legs. A chalky souffle aside, desserts are traditional and satisfying.

How to explain the joy that La Grenouille offers? Immediately eliminate any thoughts of lucre. What this beautiful environment brings to the exquisite cuisine makes for whatever time you spend supreme experience. Service is grandly old fashioned, with one small exception for those, perhaps, more or less not known to the staff, since the regulars are, frankly, seated with special care in the restaurant's front room This, however, disconcertingly snobbish to.some, is not unusual in New York unfortunately, if understandingly.

My Fiancee took me out on a romantic night in NYC. First we ate at this restaurant which was amazing. I had the scallops and he ordered the steak. Both devine. The french fries were the best I ever had. Afterwards he took me to Rockerfeller Center and propsed. The restaurant setting was a perfect beginning to a most memorable night!

Excellent service can never replace fine food and preparation. In the case of this eatery, it does not have to: "Aces" on all counts! Also, "tres" romantic. Oo, la-la...

Wonderful and My Favorite

Been there multiple times and never was disappointed. While pricey, it is worth every nickel. Better have a souffle while you are there and order it with the dinner so it is ready in time for dessert. Ohh la la.
