You'd have to work really hard to get a bad meal at Los Pollitos II. For intersection of quality and price, its Peruvian roasted chicken, which comes with red and green sauces, is unbeatable: Half a chicken is less than five bucks. Fresh chips and jalepeno-heavy pico de gallo start you off, and the simple and fresh Mexican food, from chorizo nachos to burritos to crispy tostadas, will make you an instant convert. The yellow rice and red beans arrive with so much flavor of their own you barely need to drown them in sauce, but Los Pollitos II serves hot salsas and refreshing guacamole anyway. Nightly specials take on slightly more upscale fare: red snapper, mussels al ajillo and hearty tortilla soup are favorites. The small space is festive in yellow and red, with a view of the roasting chickens at the popular takeout/delivery counter. It's a neighborhood joint, so expect a healthy mix of hipsters and Latino locals. -- Erin Franzman
