New York?s favorite fish house serves up regional seafood specialties in a relaxed and rollicking setting. Danny Abrams? third restaurant in four years, dubbed an inexpensive version of Le Bernardin by New York Magazine -- features a cozy, secluded garden in back, sidewalk café in the front and a dining room that?s always buzzing. The cuisine is sure to transport you from the island of Manhattan to a spot-on New England experience. Belly up to the bar and slurp down some ice cold oysters or drop by on Sunday nights for the cult-favorite Spaghetti with Salad on Top. And if you love wine, The Mermaid?s flat $15 markup on its wine list means you?ll find some gems, and some of the best values in New York.

favorite seafood in tristate
By paintergirliz on 12/20/2006
I live in Westchester and do not drive, so the fact that I convinve friends to take that long and expensive train ride down with me to the city for the Mermaid Inn says something (specially since Westchester is known for its dining). Every meal I have had here has been my new favorite, until the next one. The fish is pulled out of the oven/pan just at the right moment and the herb & salt is pulled away at the perfect moment. Tender, aromatic, perfect temperature/herb pairing/accompaniments--the chef must've made a pact to be such an artist and leave his customers...well, you remember that scene with the girl in the restaurant in Matrix? Well, imagine that chocolate cake's equivalent of a seafood dish. I give Mermaid Inn 5 stars...and will meet the chef...in the ladies room. ;)

Charming, cozy atmosphere. Good service--polite but not oversolicitous. And the food... While the menu is limited, you just know they do everything on there just right. The fried oysters are a must, as are the bay fries. Lobster roll was yummy, and the spaghetti with shrimp and scallops and arugula was fresh with a hint of spicy heat. I went on a cold winter night, but I'd love to try this place on a sunny summer day. Mermaid Inn is an East Village gem. Try it!

Great place to meet friends & relax. The food is great and the service more than adequate. Most of all the prices are great especially for the wines. Enjoyed it all & I am sure you will also.

nice place, nice well prepared selections, raw bar very fresh.Service is good with friendly waitresses but the staff seems pressured to move you out the door. An offering of desserts and a notch down on the table turns equals 5 stars.
