The Honeymoon Is Over part 2
By brannanj on 02/19/2008
...and switching a wine mid-dinner is just as unfortunate and lame. Rules like that are for Sbarro's and Pizzeria Uno not Otto, the Enoteca to the stars! Oh, we also had the famous Sformato di Parmigiano (parmigiano cheese soufflé) which was once again delicious but right around when my wife and I started discussing and realizing that everything must be flash frozen and the microwaved backstage before hitting the tables. Oh and did I mention our waitress had the personality of a damp slab of corrugated cardboard? The comatose gay couple next to us were more entertaining. Our main course, a pasta we shared, was the icing on the farewell cake for Otto. They were on the ropes, and with this next bit, they were down for the 10 count. Not even the bizarre olive oil gelato could save them from what was about to transpire. We ordered the "PENNE CON NOCI E ZUCCA" a.k.a. the penne with hazelnuts, butternut squash and smoked ricotta but I think they gave us smoked mozzarella and it was absolutely ATROCIOUS. It was like paint-by-numbers pasta. The opposite of subtle. My 2 year old cousin could have done a better job. Heck, I could've even done better! Seriously. It was the clumsiest dish of pasta, ever. It was completely inelegant. It was bumbling, bungling, oafish, and downright ponderous! There were CHUNKS, strike that, ENORMOUS CUBES of butternut squash big enough to choke a cavallo. The "smoked ricotta" was not melted at all. It was like Polly-O part-skim shredded mozzarella cheese straight from the bag and "your grocers freezer". It was clumsy. There was nothing sauce about it. It was simply all these things on a plate. It was penne, some hazelnuts, cubes of butternut squash and shredded smoked ricotta on a plate like an ingredient roll call. Penne? Present! Hazelnuts? Here! Cubes of butternut squash? Present, sir. Shredded smoked ricotta cheese? Shredded smoked ricotta cheese?! HERE, SIR!

not family friendly/overpriced
By th529 on 02/01/2007
We ate at Otto last week. From the description we were thinking pizza and drinks, family and fun. Not the case. Adult only atmosphere. Not family friendly. Overpriced to say the least. We had four kids with us, and they only thing on the menu that they would eat was plain, boiled pasta..right out of the pot. They had the nerve to charge $9 per dish. Which is the same price they charge for these crazy pasta dishes with a million and one things it in. Besides the fact that the portions were a joke. My kids ate there $9 boiled penne in about two minutes. Its a good place to have some overpriced wine buy that is about it.

mario should be ashamed!!!!
By lilkuku on 09/16/2005
I went there for dinner the other nite with my boyfriend, I cant begin to sy how dissappointing everything was, from the service, to drinks to the food and their portions!!! If this is what Mario thinks Pizza should be then he should go to Patsys or Lombardis and if his cured meats are made on site they should shop on Arthur Ave. Get better waiters who dont have attitudes. their job is to serve us not give us attitude. Mario you need to revamp that shit hole!!!!! And what was up woth the hip hop playing?????? Mario you should be ashamed

Awesome in Every way!!

The pizza is totally delicious and full of flavor. The wine selection is tremendous. The pasta was very good as well. As far as the bad reviews stating that the reviews are fake, mine is real. This place does not need any help drawing customers, every time I have been there it has been packed.
