Perhaps the most brightly lit steak house in history, Peter Luger is happy to let you see its cooked-to-perfection steaks in the best light imaginable. Rated the number one steak in NYC by Zagat readers 17 years in a row, this Williamsburg stalwart is always crowded, doesn't take any credit cards but its own, has all the ambiance of a German beer hall, and boasts a waitstaff more cantankerous than Archie Bunker. But that's why you love it, because out of all that comes the most amazing meat: buttery, a soft juicy pink on the inside, charred black on the outside, tender and marbled to perfection. Order the porterhouse for two (or three or four), and you can't go wrong at this bastion of Brooklyn beef. The juicy, tasty burgers are renown too -- not surprising since they come from the same source as the steaks. The portions run from massive to elephantine, from the tomato and onion salad, composed of red and white medallions whose diameter is almost that of a Frisbee, to the mountains of creamed spinach and fried potatoes. And of course, here you can get an appetizer of bacon -- just bacon, slabs of it on a plate. -- Erin Franzman

Okay
By tbell56 on 02/02/2008
I thought the steak I ordered which was the steak for 1 was okay a grain of grizzle ran thru the steak. but either way no great steak. What surprised me the most was the wait staff they were great. I have eaten all over the world and the waiter was a great guy. In fairness if you stuck a stick up his a@@ he would not be able to compete with other waiters. Maybe I just got a bad steak so I may take another trip.

PURE GASTRONOMIC DLIGHT
By tmayto on 01/18/2008
whether LI or Brooklyn site, the service, the appetizers, the homemade bread are fabolous. side dishes of spinach, hash browns are the best around.....oh yeah they do steak here. Porterhouse for 3 4 or 6 makes the cut all the time. my kids wanna know why we never have doggie bags, "cause it's so damn good we never leave any leftovers" leave room for "schalg" , homemade whip cream on a chocolate sundae if you dare

BORING!
By myboy1960 on 09/01/2007
Absolutely boring. But sometimes the reality (true story) isn't anywhere as exciting as one that is made up. This could be the poster child of that possibilility.Everytime I thought that something remoely exciting was about to happen, I was wrong. The movie never really gets going, and one never really finds out anything of real value about any of the characters including the one which this movie was based on. If you are looking for any action whatsoever or any historical info, this is NOT the movie to spend your money on. You will be sorely disappointed.
