Sarabeth Levine started a business selling homemade preserves and fresh baked goods from a small location on the Upper West Side in 1981. Now this recipient of the James Beard Outstanding Pastry Chef of the year award does all her baking out of an industrial kitchen in Chelsea Market, supplying some of New York's most prestigious hotels and gourmet food stores, as well as her own successful restaurants. The different locations feature all the Sarabeth goodies, including brownies, cake, cookies, muffins and pastries. You can also stock up on a supply of Sarabeth's famous jams and preserves, including the orange-apricot marmalade that started all the fuss. The cafe serves the comfort food for which Sarabeth's is known to hungry lunch crowds looking for an upgrade on the usual deli sandwich.
