Excellent Restaurant !
My Girlfriend and I went to dinner at Sardi's for her birthday over the weekend. What a gift this place is! The food was amazing from the appetizers, through the main course and into dessert! The food was perfect and this is the best meal I had in a restaurant in a very long time. The service was wonderful too. They sat us in a timely manner, they were very attentive and they served us quickly, so we were able to see a Broadway Show. My girlfriend and I will definitely be back.
Felt like a Tourist Trap
We usually go to smaller, not so "well-known" places for pre-theater dinner, but we thought we would try out Sardi's, thinking we would be impressed with it's charm and history. We were, however, very disappointed. Our food was mediocre. My husband had a steak, which was over-cooked and I had seafood which was way too salty. Knowing how much we paid for the "just average" food did not help us feel any better. I suppose you are paying for name and atmosphere, but frankly I was surprised to find it run down. The decor was nothing to be impressed with. The tables were very cramped together, the ceiling and walls looked as if they could use some repair, as well as new wallpaper and/or paint. I suppose they are going for the "classic" look, however, sometimes old is just old. I would recommend skipping this tourist trap and going with a smaller restaurant, with less of a famous name and more of a quality reputation. We won't make the same mistake next time.
Sardis is the best restaurant in New York
I have been going to Sardis for about five years now, and I must say that it is the best restaurant experience I have had in New York. I have been to about 20 different establishments, and they are by and large overpriced and not pasionate about service. Sardis is the best service and food I have yet found, and that is saying something. There is also someting irreplaceable about haveing a drink poured by Jackie Gleason's old bartender or sitting in neil simon's favorite booth. You can actally feel and breath the history there, and after a few good libations, become a part of timeless broadway. May God bless the Sardi family for keeping a part of broadway history alive for future generations.
Sardi's
This excellent restaurant still has the charm, warmth and persoanlized care one expects in the more expensive eating established.
The ervice was imoeccable, the food divine. It still has the charm and ambience it was originally noted for.
