Oh, you've heard the stories: Two-fisted foodies cramming the Staten Island ferry out into the boonies just for a bite of Denino's thin-crust pie; grown men weeping at the taste of it. Well, rest assured they're true, and rumors of Denino's demise have been greatly exaggerated. This place has been here since nearly the Depression. Inside a regular-looking house with little atmosphere, amidst a boisterous and big (bring a book) crowd that ranges from soccer moms with kids celebrating a birthday to dockworkers -- depending on time of day and blood-alcohol level -- the ovens keep the crispy crusts coming. The most frequently ordered item here is an oddly heavy pie of meatballs, onions, and ricotta: like a meatball sub and a lasagna shaken, stirred and dumped onto a pizza. 'The works' is also popular, though here they call it a 'garbage pie.' No pretense there, or anywhere else here.

Pizza Perfection
By jcakechef on 02/24/2000
Sit down, take your coat off, and order from a real live server I order by the slice, but i can most likly eat a whole pie at this old time neighborhood pizza-tavern. I usually order the plain slices. The crust is nice and crispy. They have other varieties also, but my favorite is the plain cheese pie. The fried calamarie is outstanding!!!!! Two weeks!!!!!

Denino's pizza is one of the best. It's thin and crispy. The special pie with mushrooms and sausage is tasty with real chunks of sausage. The only drawback is the long wait on Friday nights. The crispy crust as well as the sauce and toppings make this a great pie. The fried shrimp and fried calamari is also great here. Their sauce is delicious.

Try and get a table on Friday night!

Denino's has been serving up pizza for 50 yrs in staten island....it's the best. The fried calamari is to die for. Take a nice drive over the bridge and sample a pie for yourself...it'll be worth the $7 toll...just be prepared to wait a little while for a table. If you're a plain cheese pie lover... you won't be disappointed...the crust is done to perfection....thin and crispy! Other favorites are the delicious hero sandwhiches...and fish dishes such as calamari and scungulli salad..... buon appetito!

Every review is right on the money. I live in the neighborhood and this is to my visiting from overseas and out of town guests, a MUST DO and EAT when in New York. And its usually the last thing they eat before they leave too. There is a wonderful ice cream stand across the street another MUST have when on Staten Island.
