With a menu that's as worldly as the 90-plus wine list, there's something for everyone at Ayza--well, everyone except that really hungry guy, since all the dishes are rather petite. Francophiles will be pleased with indulgent offerings like creme fraiche with caviar and chicken paillard, but it's the cheese plates that aren't to be missed. The herb goat cheese and cave aged gruyere with honey and pear is a sumptuous mix of savory, sweet and fresh; were it not for the thimble-sized portion, it would quell any craving. High ceilings, a wall of wine bottles and rich red hues create the illusion of coziness despite the stark, modern details. The display of Jacques Torres truffles doesn't hurt, either. Hits: The prices are affordable, especially for high-end, presentation-focused cheeses and choice wines.Misses: Although Ayza is located between Koreatown and the Garment District, the attitude of the staff seems more suited to Soho.

romantic spot
By awardcoyle on 10/07/2009
My friend and I were going o a show at the Garden and stopped in for a bite beforehand. It was a nice change to the places closer to the garden and we dug the atmosperher -- though we were the only pair of dudes in the place (a few other dudes but they were clearly on dates -- place is a good romantic spot gotta remember that.

Very romantic place -- great for dates. I went with a colleague who was staying in the area and it was fine for us but then i brough my girlfriend back and she loved it -- I gues you can't really go wrong with wine and chocolate and chicks, right? And the food is amazing.

cool atmosphere
By timnimmo on 07/11/2009
By far one of the best wine bars in New York – the atmosphere is so cool and can be really romantic or great for a social scene. I love the outdoor patio -- perfect for a chilled white wine on a nice summer evening. They have a wine by the glass list that is off the charts. Some of my favorite wineries on it. I’ve tried almost every one of them and they're all swell. My work cronies and I have started hitting this place up for a glass or two after work. Thing is, the food is so good we often end up stayin for a bite too, and it's becoming a bit of a bad habit. I mean, in this economy, even though Ayza's afforgable, I can't be eating out all the time. I just can't stop though. Damn you Ayza for being so great!

I love Ayza

This seems like a strange neighborhood to have such a hip wine bar, and yet here it is. The place is beautiful and everything a wine bar should be, with the added bonus, of course, of Jacques Torres chocolates. I think I died and went to heaven when I first saw this place. I just had to visit and told friends about it but it took a while. Then when I finally visited and it lived up to my expectatsions, man was I happy. Excellent food, great wine, yummy chocolate, oh and a cheese menu that comes from Murray’s. Man or man. It’s literally too much to take but the best wine bar in New York in my opinion. The only problem was that the music was really loud the night I was there. It was a shame because the ambiance is really cool and the blaring music made it a little less so. Good thing I liked the songs they were playing – that was a help. And the food and the great wine list made up for loud music. It was really something else. I was there with some girlfriends and sicne there are only, like, four entrees on the menus we just got one of each and shared them all. The chicken was a little bit dry for my tastes, but the other three were great, each better than the next. I think my favorite was the ravioli though. So much flavor and yet really pretty light for a ravioli. I couldn’t believe it. So I will definitely be going back. The waitress was pretty nice though she seemed a little out of it, and we never got our waters refilled. It didn’t really matter though, since we were focusing on our wine anyway, and of course what chocolates we were going toget. The chocolates were too small to split between four people but we ended up getting 2 of each of the ones we wanted and then everyone had a little bit of something. My personal favorite was the passion fruit one, but everyone seemed to like something different. Which is great because now when we go back (which we definitely will!) we can each get our own personal favorite, which is sort of fun.
