In this diner-rich state, you're used to these stainless steel eateries that never close, and the Bendix, in the center of Route 17, looks slightly worse for wear than many of its shiny brethren. You'd never know it, but you ought to stop here, because Bendix is a famous slice of Jerseyana serving reliably good diner fare. Open since 1947, it's one of the original art deco diner cars, long and narrow with a formica counter and swivel stools. The truck-stop look is so perfect that this humble eatery has been the used in commercials and movies, including 'Diner' with Kevin Bacon and 'Boys on the Side' with Drew Barrymore. The Bendix is also known for its great waiter, Johnny D., who works the nightshift. He is blind, but such an old pro that he easily takes your order and brings your bacon cheeseburger and fries drenched in gravy. This may not be the place to take a hot date, but it's perfect when you've got a need for grease and some Jersey scenery.

Re: Josha1105. Rosie's Diner was originally The Silver Dollar Diner in Little Ferry, NOT the Bendix. Because of the commercials, the name was then changed to Rosie's. Rosie's closed and was purchased in 1991 and moved to Michigan.

The Bendix Diner Was Originally owned by a Man Named Nick and his wife. The Husband, Nick, Passed away 6 years ago and the family works so hard in his memory to keep the place going. The Son of Nick and Nick's wife work very hard to keep the Bendix Diner going. I Honestly recommend Going to the Bendix and Maybe grabbing one of those famous Pepsi's

Okay - so the ORIGINAL Bendix Diner, made popular by Rosie in the commercials, has been uplifted and moved, years ago! It was an icon and rather then raze it, it was moved, I forget where!, and what remains is a replica of that diner! I've been here on 2 occasions and both were HORRIBLE! Greasy food, bad service and scary looking customers makes me stay away! It's in such a bad location too that you risk getting killed pulling into the lot!
