If you're a lawmaker, business bigwig or aspiring wiseguy, chances are you've already been to Casa Dante. If you hunt down the finest Italian food, you've probably been introduced to the hidden mahogany-filled gem as well. If you haven't been there, however, get ready to make reservations. Jersey City's finest and most storied spot for world-class Southern Italian food is barely visible from the streets of its "Little Bombay" neighborhood for a reason. If everyone knew how remarkable the food, setting and service inside is, the charm would be gone. Entrees are fairly straightforward (marsalas, franceses, pastas), but the precision and soul that go into true Italian cooking prevails. Appetizers go a bit more gourmet, with various seafoods and carpaccios for governors and goodfellas to gander. Hopefully they don't veto or fuhgeddabout the paper-thin, raw filet mignon slices. By the end of your meal, you've learned two things: Casa Dante is the spot to go for incredible Italian, and Sicily is only a few steps from Bombay. Only in Jersey City.
