Following its current renovation, Lombardi's promises airy views, over-the-top ambience, and big Italian food. An array of different seating options -- from spare, square tables in the corner to big round affairs -- and quality stone and wood work, complete the country-house feel of the interior. The big draw here is the open plates and crockery of antipasto: fresh-sliced meats, cheeses, peppers, and olives. They also do the expected starters (calamari, clams, scampi, soups), entrees of pasta with red sauce or chicken and eggplant parms, but these are just table-setters for the big boys: sausage-stuffed steak, veal chops with pancetta and crimini mushrooms, osso buco, and roasted cod. Sides of polenta or two kinds of meatballs can't be overlooked, either. It's serious food, in a happy sort of place.

worst restaurant experience in ages
By keystonesinatra on 06/18/2008
this place has no business being on this list. The service is awful, the food is pathetically average, and the prices are absurd. My daughter had to send her food back to the kitchen twice and our server had absolutely no clue about the wine list. Our table was dirty when we sat down and the owner of the place passed by our table without even giving us a glance to see if everything was ok. Stay away!

EXCELLENT ALL AROUND
By foodie1969 on 06/15/2008
Catherine Lombardi has it all together. The food is excellent Brooklyn Italian. The wine list is phenomenal and service is great. I was pleasantly surprised by the caliber of the cocktails. I had a gin gin mule that was out of this world. It may have had its growing pains, but now it has really hit its stride. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Misses the Mark
By HN Search on 06/11/2008
My visit to this restaurant was most anticipated and ultimately very disapppointing. The Ceasar Salad was blank and probably the worst I have had in recent years. The marinara sauce was on a par with Olive Garden which is not good. This is not a cheap restaurant but never hits the mark. Service was spotty and at time lacking. Just getting a refill of tap water was a problem. There are far better restaurants for less money.
