Gaffer's Pub   

Gaffer's doesn't look like much at all from the outside, and neither does the working-class nabe. Maybe that's why it's worth a stop: A lunchpail crowd comes here to pound back cheap beers, chat each other up, and scarf down the quality burgers coming off the grill in assembly-line fashion. They come up with pretty interesting promotions from time to time. Sign up for the 'burger club' card and you could earn bonus credit for eating in bulk; consume 10 (hey, lots of locals do that in a week) and you'd get an eleventh burger gratis. They've also paired 'yuengs' with 'wings' -- Yuengling beers and buffalo wings, beers and plates going for two bucks a pop each -- and the kitchen sometimes fries up pub-style fish-and-chips (using honest-to-goodness Bass Ale in the batter), too. Surprisingly, this pub does not stay open late into the night, maybe because everyone's back to the salt mines early in the morning. Don't come to sample gastronomy; come to mingle with the masses.
