Sometimes, if you're lucky, you do indeed get what you pay for. The somewhat pricey Cafe de Paris, the only true four-star restaurant between Chicago and Denver, goes to great lengths to make your dining experience a memorable one. The concise French menu highlights beef-centered dishes like boeuf bourguignonne, but hardly shortchanges items like veal or chateaubriand. The meal is never short of exquisite, and the staff, including a sommelier to assist in the wine selection, provides for your every need. Mon dieu, what more could a diner ask for?

Very much missed!
By oneknitpixie on 09/05/2007
Sadly, the chef and the owner, Ivan (pronounced Ee-vahn) have retired. Ivan has never attempted to make anyone believe he is French. He is, in fact, Croatian, and proud of it. The service and the food were always flawless and I believe the "spoon-licking" report to be a malicious lie.

Evonne makes it impossible...
By schrager on 06/25/2005
Evonne, the owner and waiter, tries to pass himself off as sophisticated French, but I believe he is Hungarian, vulgar and rude. He is not a nice man and berates his staff in front of customers and treats his customers as if they've never dined out. For instance, when we asked for a wine list, he insisted that none existed and he would pick out something "appropriate," which was a terribly overpriced, mediocre vintage. The food is good, but it's hard to enjoy with Evonne making an ass out of himself. If you want better food with service that makes you feel like a welcome guest, try VMertz, the Flat Iron or Le Voltaire. I've tried Cafe de Paris several times and always leave there feeling violated and ripped off.
