With swanky black curtains and tables surrounding the stage, the Galaxy Theater looks ready to host a Vegas-style dinner cabaret. The acts that usually take the stage, however, are quite different. Pop stars such as Jessica Andrews, legends like Carly Simon and rock bands like L7 and the Kottonmouth Kings draw crowds that are far different from the typical dinner theater set. Lately, the theater tends to book more thrashy or punk-rock bands, especially during weeknights, with an emphasis on local talent. Book a banquet table with some friends,and arrive early to dine on seafood and steak before the night morphs into a melange of hard-core sounds, explicit lyrics, slam-dancing and carousing. Tables remain set through the show, so reserving one guarantees primo seating -- out of the mosh pit, but close enough to take it all in. If you don't go for the dinner-show package, then you can either stand on the dance floor (if there is one -- it depends on the show), find a seat further back or chill in the lounge. Groups of 14 or more can book one of the eight VIP rooms arranged about the theater.
