When the swing dance world gives out honors, Memories always happens to be at the top of the list. In The Swing and 5,6,7,8 Magazines both named Memories as the best dance club in 1999 and 2000. And oh yeah, dance teacher Brandon Grunbaum did a threepeat in 1998, 1999, 2000 by winning first place in the California State Lindyhopping Championships. So, with that sort of reputation, is admission possible for average swing talents or people who (gasp) like rock music better than swing? Yep. The only thing asked by the Memories gang is that you take swing seriously. Before DJs spin swing hits (you may even hear something from the 1960s band The Impressions), swing and salsa dance classes are taught. Dinners of burgers, salads and quesadillas are served. Of course, the star attraction here is dancing. People from ages 14 to 84 come here to Lindyhop. But rock bands such as the Weezer-like Sarazen play at the smoky downstairs bar. Memories hosts salsa nights in the downstairs bar too, but in the giant upstairs dance room it's always the classic swing era. -- Andrew Asch

Not What You Get !

Just know that this place doesn't serve any alcohol of any kind, so if you want to even have wine you're out of luck. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, and you have to run the event yourself. The DJ they recommend isn't the *************** just an ipod with glorified speakers attached...I liked it ran the old way. They had actual people who knew what they were doing. This new "team" has no idea of how to run a business. Where did all the dancers go ? I'm following you too...

The minute you walk in the door, you feel like you're on the set of a movie. The decor is plush and beautiful and makes you feel warm and cozy at the same time. This is a great place to have a party, or any other event that requires a spacious setting. The food is terrific and they have some Italian dishes that will knock your socks off. The chef will also make pizza from scratch for you that is just incredible. Once you have his pizza, you'll never want to torture your taste buds with a lesser version again. I've been taking dance lessons there and I feel so fortunate to be a part of that community. The people are so great and I've made some wonderful friends. The atmosphere is so much better than just a dance studio that has no refreshments or food. I highly recommend this club to anyone who likes to have fun and eat good food in a place with lots of atmosphere.
